Another team, another visit to La Cote d’Ivoire in May 2007.
This was a different mission from the norm in that it was not meeting orientated. My purpose was to spend some time with Solomon and Armande just to try and encourage them. Pastor Osmond from Ghana came over as well. My team included 4 Irish girls.
Last year I brought Revs. Robert and Rosemary McAulay from the Victory Praise Centre in Ballymena, N. Ireland. They have since been fully involved with Pastor Solomon have even had one of their members send Solomon a fantastic 4X4 Land Rover Discovery. They are also in the process of organising a sponsorship programme for the girls that the church support. This will not only feed them, but also help them into their chosen profession either by enabling them to purchase equipment or paying for them to attend a training centre or college. Their chosen careers range from dressmaking to accountancy to medicine. What a wonderful ministry that is transforming God’s beautiful children and giving them hope.
For example, on the right two of the girls are Bridgette and Stephanie. Bridgette was one of the first girls and now runs her own hairdressing business and is getting married to Augusta, the church organist. Stephanie is 17, has lived with her mother, (her father died), worked on the street to get food just so her mother could eat. Now she training to be a seamstress.
At present there are 40+ of these girls and a few boys also. Not all have been prostitutes. One of the boys was thrown out by his family when he converted from Islam. Another boy was one of a pair of twins. His brother was fine but when his family saw his handicaps they threw him out.
We spend time with them and visited where the street girls work and had a very long meeting on the Sunday morning. We were so encouraged by the work that they are doing and want to encourage others to get involved.
Pastor Solomon is visiting the UK and Ireland again in September.
