Becky, Allie, Carol and myself visited Ethiopia in February. We visited several prisons and shared with the prisoners in different parts of the country. It was again a privilege to share the Gospel with these hidden people and see many respond. The girls enjoyed all the visits to the Ladies’ Prisons and spent a lot of time talking and listening to them.
I am amazed once again at what a difference one person can make. Becky came with me 2 years ago and on a different team last year. She had visited one of the ladies prisons called Debre Birhan and was so moved by the living conditions of those ladies, several of whom had little children who would also live out their mother’s sentence. They had mud floors, no toilets or washing facilities, no beds and nothing to do. Becky wrote some songs, recorded a CD, sold it and financed what we saw on this trip. New floors, ceilings, toilet and shower, water supply, beds, sewing machines and even a new flower bed to show the pride these ladies are now taking with their new facilities. It was a real blessing for us to see the improvements.
Then back in the hotel for the 2 day conference. This was the fourth Conference that I have held in the Ghion Hotel. I have always found it an amazing privilege to host this conference and speak into the lives of these men and women. We had 130 delegates this time and I spoke on the subject of ‘Ruth’.
Some of these people have large churches and some are evangelists who run so hard the rest of the year. Some of them have torture marks on their bodies, some been in prison for what they believe. We also have the entire staff of Prison Fellowship Ethiopia, who I work with in Ethiopia.
One new pastor I met this time is pastor Okok who started a church 15 years ago under a tree and now has a membership of 30,000.
Next year we are going to go bigger and bless a greater number of Christian Workers.
