In February 2005, we had the privilege of sharing the gospel in 6 prisons in Ethiopia. The men's prisons held between 1500 and 2000 men and they nearly all respond when they hear that Jesus died for them. PFE is trying to set up pastors to work alongside these men and help them both in their spiritual and practical lives. It is a real honour for me to stand alongside these amazing men and women who work with PFE. For an evangelist to get the opportunity to share the gospel with approx. 5000 people is awesome.
Becky and Ernie were fantastic. Becky brought her guitar and sang in each place we went and really blessed the people. Ernie gave testimony and encouraged the people wherever we went. As in Ghana, God has allowed me to bring a fantastic team.
Some of the prison visits involved staying away from Addis for a few nights but Ethiopia is such a beautiful nation. In the UK we have had a picture of the nation as a famine ravaged country with people starving to death. Ethiopia is a poor nation but with the most amazing heritage on earth. Its people have a sense of history and the Christian leaders there see God having a special place for Ethiopia in his plans.
Last year Daniel had gathered over 60 or the local Pastors and leaders from over 20 different denominations from all over Addis. We had such an amazing time that we gathered them again for a 2 day conference,(The Joshua Project - Course 2), in the Ghion hotel. This time we had over 80 ministers and God was with us. I shared 8 Sessions with them and we ate, laughed together and encouraged each other and really came close to God.
We are planning to increase it again next February. I see it as so important to just encourage those who are working for God. Some of those ministers told me that they never take a day off and that they never ever get a chance to be ministered to as they are giving out all the time. Each day we also encouraged the staff of PFE by leading their morning devotions before they began their work.
Becky and Ernie were a real encouragement to the people there as they both work in our local prison and so brought a fresh outlook to the people there.
